Job Summary

Perform research on identification, evolution and functional dissection of cis-regulatory elements in the angiosperms, under the guidance and supervision of the Principle Investigator.


Essential Functions

Examples of duties:

  • Bioinformatic identification of conserved non-coding sequences (CNS) in angiosperm genomes.
  • Dissection of CNS function using CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing in Brachypodium distachyon, maize, and Arabidopsis thaliana.
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers in the lab.
  • Preparing manuscripts associated with the project.

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • PhD in plant biology, molecular biology, evolution, bioinformatics, or a related field.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Work will be conducted in the research lab, greenhouse, maize genetics nursery at the UMass farm, and in a typical office environment.

Work Schedule

  • Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
  • Occasional weekends as required during our summer and winter field seasons.
  • 40 hours a week, 100% FTE.

Salary Information

Salary will commensurate with experience.
