The HMC SLEEP CENTER has an outstanding opportunity to hire three part time 90% FTE night shift POLYSOMNOGRAPHIC TECHNICIAN 2s. Under general supervision of the Manager and Assistant Manager, the Polysomnographic Technician 2 contributes to the day to day operations of the HMC Sleep Center.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts all types of sleep studies including: MSLT, MWT, and daytime PSG, SPL and PAP studies.
2. Provides basic patient education for PAP therapy when required.
3. Home study device programing and sleep study processing.
4. Sleep Center equipment testing, troubleshooting and maintenance. Including, but not limited to,
cleaning/sterilization according to policy standards.
5. Patient home study setups and training, both individual and group.
6. Ensures adequate medical record documentation to facilitate billing, coding, and superior quality of care.
7. Scores sleep studies.
8. Assists with communicating results, scheduling and rescheduling of patients.
9. Monitoring performance of sleep testing equipment to ensure quality.
10. Ensures environment is prepared to receive patients.
11. Reviews insurance authorization and referral prior to testing.
12. Assists with obtaining prior authorization of sleep studies.
13. Reviews history of patients scheduled for testing to make appropriate patient care decisions.
14. Identifies equipment needs and ensures timely notification of need for repair or ordering.
15. Reports environmental safety issues to appropriate persons in a timely manner.
16. Assists, resolves, or appropriately refers customer service issues.
17. Recognizes and communicates changes in patient conditions in a timely manner; seeks assistance as necessary.
18. Ensures job tasks have been completed.
19. Follows through on delegated tasks and is able to prioritize requests appropriately.
20. Follows changes in hospital and departmental policies, procedures and processes.
21. Proactively facilitates sleep testing, anticipates obstacles and intervenes effectively.
22. Assists with QA program, data acquisition and analysis to meet accreditation standards and maintain a constant state of readiness.
23. Collaborates with Manager, Assistant Manager and other technicians on special projects based on department need.
24. Ability and willingness to travel by automobile to satellite HSAT locations as required.
25. Ability to work variable schedule.
26. Other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
1. Communicates effectively and professionally.
2. Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
3. Capable of working 8 to 12 hour shifts and a variable schedule.
4. Vision adequate for fine discrimination on monitor for extended periods up to 12 hours.
5. Can grasp equipment or supplies with both hands.
CLINICAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCY:
1. Maintains expertise in all technical aspects of sleep diagnostics and intervention.
2. Acquires, maintains and applies current knowledge of sleep medicine field.
3. Knows how to troubleshoot equipment and acquisition system issues.
4. Provides direct patient care in all clinical aspects of data acquisition as needed.
5. Maintains necessary sleep (RPSGT) credentials.
6. Scoring sleep studies.

20. Must Obtain 10 accredited CEUs per year in accordance with BRPT Registry guidelines and AASM guidelines for Sleep Center accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory care, electroencephalogram diagnostics or polysomnography
AND
Two years of experience conducting sleep studies in a patient care setting
AND
Certified in CPR
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
