About the Position:

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Needs Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.


Responsibilities
  • Enforce and assure compliance with Federal, state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances.
  • Responsible for the investigation, apprehension, or detention of persons suspected or convicted of offenses against criminal laws of United States.
  • Observe traffic for evidence of unsafe practices/vehicles, improperly registered vehicles, helmet/seat-belt use, etc. and cite or apprehend offenders.
  • Detain or apprehend suspected or guilty persons.
  • Participate in searches to seize evidence, contraband, weapons, drugs, stolen property, etc., and to detain/question subjects under principle of "probable cause."
  • Stand at fixed entry gate checkpoints, inspecting vehicles and/or personnel for proper identification upon arrival/departure from the installation.
  • Enforce traffic laws and protect government property, materials, and facilities against trespass, theft, fire, damage, and espionage.
  • Transport prisoners to detention facility, and transport persons who are awaiting trial or arraignment before U. S. Magistrate's Court.

    • In accordance with 5 USC 7371, any law enforcement officer who is convicted of a felony shall be removed from employment as a law enforcement officer on the last day of the first applicable pay period following the conviction notice date.
    • Must be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
    • Must pass periodic medical examination (physical, emotional, and mental stability, etc.). Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Must pass periodic physical agility test requirements.
    • Must successfully graduate from DA Police Academy.
    • Must be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, and radar guns.
    • State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
    • Incumbent must meet all other mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program."
    • Training and proficiency in specialized weapons and unarmed self-defense will be required.
    • Incumbent must comply with Army Civilian Police dress and appearance requirements of AR 670-10, "Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia."

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.     Basic Requirement for Police Officer:

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a range of law enforcement duties to include vehicle and foot patrol; detaining and apprehending violators; assisting with investigations; and interviewing witnesses. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualifications requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education

    Additional information

    • This position is designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
    • Serves as a Special Reaction Team (SRT) member required to participate in high-risk arrest, sniper, hostage, terrorist, and other comparable criminal and violent situations on an on-call basis. Undergoes frequent special training and exercises in anti-sniper techniques, hostage negotiation techniques, marksmanship and special weapons use, and air mobile operations and rappelling techniques.
    • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs may be warranted. This position may be subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
    • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
    • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
    • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
