Position Purpose The Physician Substitute (LPN, EMT-P, EMT-B) is responsible for determining donor eligibility by performing donor eligibility assessments, including medical history interviews, physical examination, educating donors on donor testing, and managing donor adverse events. The Physician Substitute is also responsible for assisting with the management and administration of employee counseling, testing, and follow-up of employee exposures to blood or plasma. Essential Job Functions · Monitor and evaluate the operation and provide feedback to the Center Director. · Selection of suitable plasmapheresis donors through the use of Standard Operating Procedure Manual (with particularly detailed attention to communications related to viral disease information and plasmapheresis informed consent), current State and Federal guidelines, OSHA, CLIA, and cGMP, all internal company procedures, and via personal education and experience. · Timely review of accumulated data to confirm established donor suitability. · Assist with management and administration of employee counseling, testing, and follow- up of employee exposures to blood or plasma. · Provide appropriate and confidential counseling to unacceptable individuals. · Provide a level of care during unexpected or severe donor adverse events. · Assist in employee training as necessary. · Consult with Center Laboratory/Medical Director/Licensed Physician as required by the Physician Substitute Program. Communicate with Medical Director where necessary to ensure donor suitability issues are addressed appropriately. · Report all unsafe situations or conditions to supervisor. Education & Experience · High school diploma or GED required. · Licensed or certified in the state where duties will be assigned: Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), EMT-P, or EMT-B. A license is required.
