General Scope of Responsibility: Lead and maintain an effective plant quality program reflective of the Corporate Quality Philosophy, which will achieve the plant’s quality objectives of 100% conforming product, delivered on time to our customers, at a profitable cost to the Company.
DUTIES AND ELEMENTS:
Supervises the Quality Department personnel:
- Identifies and secures approval for the staffing and budgetary needs of the quality department.
- Provides for skill development, professional development, and cross-training of department personnel.
- Evaluates and rates performance of direct reports, assure their assigned duties are performed.
- Establishes environment conducive to high performance, assist other plant personnel to understand and execute their specifically assigned duties.
- Assures that communications to all shifts is consistent and complete.
Manages the systems and procedures needed to effectively perform the Quality Department functions:
- Develops, maintains, improves, and assures the effective execution of documented procedures needed to effectively manage Quality Department activities; perform or delegate duties specifically assigned to the Plant Quality Manager.
- Oversee plant internal audits acting as the plant administrator for this function, yearly audit schedules, facilitate auditor training, review auditor competency. Represent the plant during 2nd and 3rd party quality system audits.
- Assist in development of strategies to assure continuous quality/productivity/cost improvement in systems, procedures, processes and products; assist in institutionalizing the corporate Quality Philosophy throughout the plant.
- Assist in developing the plant’s annual Quality/Productivity Improvement plan; implementation and execution of Plex Modules, regularly report on progress against plan.
- Serve as IATF 16949 Management Representative. Ensure continual improvement in the Management System and compliance with IATF 16949 and customer specific requirements.
- Actively participates in the Order Execution process, assures APQP is properly executed and Control Plans are effective. Participates in the development of FMEAs and helps ensure launches are successful.
- Assist purchasing to assess and select vendors; assist in communications with vendors on quality requirements, problems and corrective action.
Provides leadership role in resolving product quality problems:
- Assures customers receive prompt, thorough, and complete responses to quality complaints, in accordance with applicable customer applications and internal procedures;
- Assures effective corrective actions are identified and implemented in a timely fashion for external, internal and supplier failures. Ensure corrective actions are shared across all manufacturing plants and incorporated into lessons learned database.
- Coordinates administration of the defective material identification & disposition program; i.e., the DMR & MDA.
- Monitors & takes corrective/improvement action on key quality measurables; i.e., parts per million (PPM)/Spoilage, repeat complaints
- Report on the quality performance of the plant in a systematic and regular fashion so management and non-management personnel are aware of performance and can mutually assess our improvement needs. Report to the Plant Manager and/or the Corporate Quality Director the needs of the plant’s quality effort.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Work Experience, Etc.):
Minimum [Must have to be considered for the position]:
- Degree (preferably in a technical discipline) and five or more years of experience in manufacturing; or, high school diploma or equivalent and ten or more years of experience in quality area or manufacturing supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience which demonstrates developed problem-solving skills.
- Experience with database systems (i.e. Word, Excel, MS Office, Plex ERP)
- Developed planning and organizing skills, attention to detail, team building and leadership skills, administrative skills, and ability to make decisions and reach closure on assigned tasks.

- Self-starter – able to work with minimal direction and has a sense of urgency.
- Understanding of concepts and strategies of a Management System, productivity improvement, utilization of quality costs.
- Training in Management/Leadership, Problem Solving, and the Core Tools (APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA, PPAP)
- Judgment – The ability to draw logical conclusions based on established evidence
- Understanding of principles and how to interpret results for all testing performed in his/her area of responsibility; sufficient knowledge to assess the performance of all technicians doing quality related testing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the key quality and process characteristics of the products and processes involved with.
- Thorough knowledge of all Cadillac Products quality related policies and procedures as well as customer requirements; both quality system and product quality requirements.
- Certified Internal Quality Auditor for IATF 16949 and ISO 14001
- ASQ Certification.
- Excellent follow-up/control – Insures that directives are understood and carried out.

Physical Requirements;
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and navigate tight spaces. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 10 – 15 pounds. Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighting up to 30 pounds with assistance.
