DuPont Water & Protections is recruiting for a Plant Process Control Technician (PPCT) to join its dynamic team located at its Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Foam Production Facility in Burley, Idaho. The Burley site manufacturers Styrofoam™ insulation board as part of DuPont’s Water & Protection business.
The Plant Process Control Technician maintains the health and operability of the process controls systems in the XPS facility. S/he will also be responsible for implementing process automation improvements and serves as the plant IT focal point. S/he will be required to program and troubleshoot logic code and process controls systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to understand complex logic code. The PPCT is also responsible for generating and updating documentation relating to process controls/automation.
The Process Control Technician (PCT) also supports the Automation and Process Control systems and provides first contact support to operations and maintenance to resolve production issues. S/he participates in regular and scheduled maintenance activities with vendor/contractor support and other maintenance functions. The PCT also participates on improvement teams and implements projects in collaboration with the plant Production/Improvement Engineer. S/he works with third party vendors to implement process control improvements and supports control system best practices under the direction of the business Process Controls Consultant and the business Process Automation Leader.
As a Plant Process Control Technician, you will:
- Provide first line troubleshooting on process control systems, applications, and infrastructure including ABB process control systems, Allen Bradley PLC controls, solids feeder systems and robots.
- Participates in regular and scheduled maintenance activities on Process Automation (PA) systems and infrastructure with vendor/contractor support and other internal and external maintenance functions.
- Evaluates risks to ensure safe and reliable plant operations during troubleshooting and maintenance activities on control systems and applications.
- Ensures all changes follow a Management of Change (MOC) process and are properly tested prior to loading into a production system per plant procedures.
- Participates on project/improvement teams and implements small projects under the direction of the business Process Automation Consultant or other engineers in Operations.
- Executes physical and cyber security maintenance of control systems, including backups, patches and updates.
- Implements and supports control system best practices under the direction of the business Process Automation Consultant.
- Prioritizes and regularly facilitates reviews of ongoing process controls improvement opportunities with the core plant technical team.
- Works with corporate IT support as the plant IT focal point to coordinate server maintenance and upgrades as needed.
Qualifications- A minimum of a High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent is required; 2-year technical/trade school degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of manufacturing or related experience is preferred
- Working knowledge of instrumentation and electrical installations (Motor Control Centers, etc.).
- Knowledge of operating systems, hardware, software, PC troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
- Experienced in troubleshooting process and control issues in a fast-paced environment under periods of urgency and stress.
- Experience with process equipment including automated valves, LEL detectors, flow, pressure, level and temperature transmitters.
- Experienced in commissioning of new instrument and electrical systems/projects within a petrochemical, or similar process.
- Experienced in process control systems required (ABB preferred).
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC systems required.
- Experience with PID controller tuning.
- Experience with robots preferred.
- Process Safety Management (High Hazard Process/Low Hazard Operation) experience preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent in hardware and software development and skills.
- Effective in understanding automation networks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to work within an empowered team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong skill set in organization and prioritizing projects and work load.
- Must be a self-starter, who is highly motivated, able to take the initiative on projects, and able to work without supervision.
- Teamwork oriented and Safety focused.
- This role is located in Burley, ID reporting to the Plant Manager and may require less than 5% of travel.
