We currently have an opening for a Plant Engineer at our power plant in Peekskill, NY.


Job Summary: Plan, direct, and coordinate activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery in the industrial plant. Monitor and report on plant operations and maintenance in order to optimize plant operating characteristics and efficiencies, and minimize maintenance costs.


Essential Functions:

  • Monitors and performs periodic tests on operations of the plant to determine operating characteristics and efficiencies.
  • Participates in the engineering of plant modifications and improvements.
  • Gives plant tours and performs other public relations functions as directed.
  • Prepares periodic and special plant performance reports.
  • Maintains plant data files. Includes maintaining machinery history.
  • Manages and maintains boiler water chemistry.
  • Participates in special projects as directed.
  • Performs outage related functions (such as boiler tube UT profiling) as directed.
  • Establishes standards and policies for pollution control, installation, modification, quality control, testing, operating procedure, inspection, and maintenance of equipment, and oversees maintenance of plant buildings.
  • Directs maintenance of plant buildings and coordinates requirements for new designs, surveys, and maintenance schedules for equipment and machinery.
  • Prepares bid sheets and contracts for mechanical contractors, and for construction and facilities acquisition activities.
  • Tests newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of contract specifications.
  • Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals as directed.
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
  • Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Reads, understands, and applies information such as, lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, resolves, and implements solutions to engineering problems
  • Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.
  • Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas.
  • Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent desirable
  • Two years working in a power plant environment.
  • Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant.
  • Possess mechanical skills sufficient to perform such routine tasks as opening vessel and equipment access doors, placing and removing furnace access equipment, overhead protection and staging, operating power tools, and performing minor mechanical repairs to plant equipment or structures.

  • Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies

  • Perform job duties within prescribed standards. Minimal supervision necessary once varied tasks are mastered.

Physical Demand:

  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, able to adjust focus, corrected or otherwise
  • Operate a 1.5 inch fire hose operating at 125 psi line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire
  • Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from hand held extinguishers to 200 lb portable units
  • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways.

PPE Required:

Work in areas under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, the following with average fatigue:

  • Negative pressure respirator
