The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services is seeking to hire a full time Physician Assistant to provide primary health care services. Selected candidate will be joining our staff of Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and other health care professionals. Interest or experience in serving patients with Mental Health needs preferred. Salary range for this position is $34.555 - $59.239 per hour. Salary based on experience. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating 10 institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. Under direct supervision of a licensed physician performs health care services to patients who are under the care of a state institution. Incumbents perform only such medical procedures and tasks as are usually performed within the normal scope of the supervising physician's practice and independently conducts appropriate examinations and recommends proper diagnosis and treatment for the final approval of the supervising physician. This level assumes supervisory and management responsibilities for medical programs within a facility. The supervising physician is fully responsible for all Physician Assistant activities; performs related work as required. Knowledge of: the Life Sciences including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Histology, and Embryology; the use and effect of modern drugs; primary care medicine as outlined by the Nebraska State Board of Medical Examiners for Physician Assistants.

REQUIREMENTS: Certification and current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska. Graduation from an American Medical Association approved Physician Assistant program or have passed the National Commission Certification examination; supervisory experience helpful.
PREFERRED: Experience working as a Physician Assistant within a clinical setting or equivalent experience. Current CPR/ALCS certification preferred (required within one year of hire). Interest or experience in serving patients with Mental Health needs.
OTHER: Applicants who will be graduating from a PA or NP program within the next three months will be considered. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
