Position: ER - Physician Assistant
Reports To: ED Medical Director
Schedule: Full time days, plus rotational on-call

Job Summary:
Emergency Department PA assesses, plans, and provides patient care to patients in an emergency unit under the supervision of a physician. Assesses patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests. Conducts patient education, writes prescriptions, and prepares discharge summaries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides medical treatment to patients with critical conditions under physician supervision. Instructs and counsel patients, perform physical examinations, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic studies, and interpret diagnostic laboratory tests.
- Resuscitates and stabilizes patients and transitions care to an appropriate endpoint whether that be ICU, general inpatient bed, another provider, another hospital, or home.
- Obtains health histories and assesses the state of patient health in order to determine health care needs and documents findings in the medical record.
- Performs, orders and interprets routine laboratory tests; notifies patients of results.
- May routinely perform such therapeutic procedures as (but is not limited too): Laceration repair, wound care, cast and splint application, abscess incision and drainage, procedural sedation, regional block anesthesia, arthrocentesis, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, urethral catheterization, establishing venous access, arterial puncture and blood gas sampling.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Administers medications and injections; sutures minor lacerations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Documents appropriately in the medical record by accurately recording and reporting patient conditions; assures medical records are completed as required, when patients are transferred participates in any scheduled review for quality and completeness of documentation.
- Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides necessary patient information.
- Manages medical and surgical emergencies
Attends required meetings; participate in committees as required.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
- Maintains and ensures confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Performs other related work as required.
Education, Experience and Other Requirements:
Physical Demands: The job requires fifty percent (50%) of the time standing and/or walking, frequent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling loads up to 25 pounds.
Accident/Health Hazards: The tasks performed on the job produce exposure to injuries (cuts, fractures, strains, burns, etc.) obtained in use of equipment, hazardous material or health hazards (based on contact with communicable diseases) that could result in permanent or long-term illness or injury.
