Job Description: Join UChicago Medicine as a Physical Therapy Technician working for the Physical Therapy department. Come join our team of committed, quality-focused professionals!
The Physical Therapy Technician assists physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, physical therapist assistants and students in the preparation for and delivery of physical and occupational therapy services/procedures/interventions. The Physical Therapy Technician maintains environment of care in a clean and safe manner, according to departmental policies and maintains routine supplies in therapy areas.

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepares patients, equipment in all areas for treatment as assigned which includes taking and recording vital signs, patient transport/escort and transfer assistance.
  • Assists in the delivery of unskilled physical and occupational therapy services under the direct supervision of physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, physical therapist assistants and students.
  • Maintains equipment/supply inventory by requesting supplies from management staff, stocking and assessing/adjusting par levels.
  • Cleans equipment and work areas consistently to meet all regulatory guidelines; assesses equipment regularly to assure compliance with clinical engineering calibration; checks and submits work orders as necessary to maintain safe and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Maintains the therapeutic pool environment, assists patient transfers and assures safety, assists in scheduling.
  • Assists in the hydrotherapy area with the application of clean/sterile dressings, preparation and cleaning of whirlpools and surrounding areas.
  • Assists with patient scheduling and phone calls, record maintenance and log maintenance of all areas.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR certification.
  • BLS Health care provider.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care which is age specific/appropriate for the types of patients served.
  • Appropriate interpersonal skills to enable positive interactions with patients/families, the multidisciplinary team and external contacts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in direct care of persons in a healthcare setting desirable
