Job Description

Schedule: Intern is scheduled to work 40 hours a week. Schedules will vary weekly, based upon business needs.

Internship will begin on June 7st, 2021 and will end on August 20th, 2021.

Job Functions:
  • Participate with focus and engagement in an 11-week internship program for students interested in becoming community pharmacists. Throughout summer program, Interns will have the opportunity to work directly with patients while under the supervision of some of the best pharmacists a community pharmacy setting.
  • You will experience first-hand the day-to-day functions of a GIANT or MARTIN’S pharmacist focused on the core responsibilities of:
    • PATIENT CARE- Under the direct supervision of the pharmacist, interns will counsel patients on Rx and OTC items.
    • PRESCRIPTION PROCESSING-Interns will receive detailed instruction on the computer in order to properly process prescriptions.
    • CUSTOMER SERVICE-A major focus of the program is for the Intern to develop the listening and empathy skills, which are a vital part of being a successful pharmacist.
    • PHARMACY OPERATIONS- Interns will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of pharmacy operations including ordering, inventory management, profit analysis, audits and much more.
    • CLINICAL SERVICES- Interns will have the opportunity to utilize their clinical knowledge to impact patient care utilizing MTM platforms (Mirixa, Outcomes, Outliers) and to perform CMR’s under the supervision of their pharmacist / preceptor.
    • STORE OPERATIONS- In addition to exposure to the pharmacy, interns will have the opportunity to work with the store management team to develop those interpersonal skills, which are necessary to become a successful pharmacist.
    • COMMUNITY PROJECTS- In addition to working directly with a Pharmacy Preceptor, interns will have the opportunity to work alone and in groups on projects to benefit the pharmacy department, the overall stores and our customers.

  • Participate meaningfully in various developmental activities associated with the Internship Program.
  • Work effectively with a team to complete a final group project presentation that will focus on addressing current needs within the business.

Essential Skills

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and other software to effectively communicate with others and produce work product as assigned.
  • Ability to sit, stand, move about, grasp, reach, type, speak, and lift up to 10 lbs. frequently as required by daily work assignments.
  • Be detailed-oriented, possess strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others in a group setting either physically or virtually.
  • Able to handle confidential material in a discrete and professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to travel for work via personal or community mass transportation if needed.
  • The ability to observe company policies and work rules, and other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Have completed their first year of the professional curriculum at an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Have availability to participate from early June through mid-August.
