The Follow-Up Representative, Patient Financial Services (PFS) will be responsible for collecting and posting payments for patient accounts. Receives and posts payments to proper accounts.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares statements and reports for credit department.
  • Initiates payment plans or collection procedures against responsible party.
  • May refer accounts to collection agency.
  • Maintains record of collections and status of accounts.
  • Manages proactively patient account balances that are large as defined by management discretion and are due from third party payers.
  • Investigates and resolves denials on a weekly basis with the objectives of reducing the number of denials in the future.
  • Maintains key performance indicators as defined by management discretion.
  • Calculates and enters appropriate adjustments to invoices in the portfolios based on insurance reimbursement methodologies, contractual relationships, and coverage.
  • Recommends accounts to be written off to appropriate categories if the provider did not meet certain payer guidelines, such as timely capture of charges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior collections experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree

Physical Requirements:


  • See, read, and/or operate computers, telephones, office equipment, documents, labels, including manipulating paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • Remain sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
  • Frequent interactions with associates, patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require associate to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information banding patients, etc.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items (over 50 lbs.).
