Personal Support Specialist (PSS) - Varies Variable Shifts

POSITION SUMMARY:
As part of a high-functioning care team, the PSS carries out care for our Residents, which he/she has been certified to perform. The PSS reports to the facility Administrator.
Essential Job Functions:
This facility expects their employees to promote an atmosphere of teamwork with other employees and hospitality and comfort for its residents. Therefore, the following list of duties is not all-inclusive:
PATIENT CARE:
- Assures that his/her assigned duties meet facility standards of nursing care, is familiar with and follows the facilities policies and procedures.
- Promotes and maintains positive relationships with peers and Residents and works collaboratively with all departments.
- Meets the care needs of each Resident in accordance to each individualized service plan, reports any changes to supervisor.
- Remain pleasant, cheerful, tactful, and courteous at all times.
- Observe and report resident condition by monitoring vital signs; reviewing resident service plan and records patient information into the electronic medical record.
- Meets residents’ needs by promoting highest level of independence.
- Completes assignments in a timely, safe, and thorough manner.
- Is dependable and demonstrates ability to follow the attendance policy.
- Ensures that all Resident needs are met through resident centered approach.
- Welcomes and assists in the orientation of all new employees.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy resident environment by following nursing policies and procedures.
- Maintains continuity of resident care by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs in the medical record and report to the next caregiver.
- Ability to cooperate with other personnel and to resolve interpersonal conflicts with minimal assistance.
- Must maintain information as confidential material per HIPAA.
- Willingness to accept suggestions and supervision from supervisor.
- Demonstrates correct safety techniques in working with Residents, complies with facility. Immediately reports faulty equipment.
- Safety awareness is demonstrated by using proper body mechanics.
- Principles of infection control and prevention are consistently followed.
- Ability to be flexible and work other units and shifts as needed and assists other departments as needed. Any duties that are deemed necessary to manage the overall well-being of the Residents.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Hold a current PSS certificate; completed the course curriculum set by DHHS.
- Experience with, and desire to care for people, especially those who are older and chronically ill.
- Focus on a high-level of customer service.
- Ability to work with independence, flexibility, and good judgment.
