Coordinates nursing care and patient/family education for Newborn, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patients through the use of the nursing process; maintains positive working relationships with staff and other departments to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of professional nursing practice. These responsibilities are met according to anesthesia guidelines, hospital policy, hospital mission/vision statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing. The RN should demonstrate a knowledge base and skill set necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served. The nurse must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment. The RN must be aware of ASPAN standards regarding patient care. The RN must have or obtain an advanced understanding of surgical procedures and the effects of anesthesia. The RN also follows Universal Protocol policy for correct site, side and level, institutes normothermia measures and effective pain management measures, follows VTE and SCIP protocols and collaborates effectively with other disciplines as appropriate.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Operationally, the Staff RN reports to the Department Manager, and administratively to the Chief Nursing Officer
REQUIREMENTS: 1.) Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas 2.) BCLS, ACLS, and PALS 3) Experience in PACU setting/Perioperative nursing clinical experience or other Critical Care settings preferred. 4) Specialty Certification preferred 5) Basic Arrhythmia/Telemetry training preferred
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required BCLS, ACLS, and PALS.
