As a Medical Assistant you will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the medical office/hospital. You will support doctors and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization and communication. The target is to complete all activities accurately, with high quality and in a timely manner. We require a high attention to detail and an individual who is strong in triage as well as understands the immunization process.
- Answer phones and schedule appointments when front office staff member unavailable
- Triage phone calls and document in EHR using Clear Triage or AAP Telephone Protocols Manual
- Triage patients (growth parameters, vitals, vision/hearing screens etc.)
- Collect lab specimens from patients as directed by physician - such as rapid flu, rapid strep, throat culture, urine specimens
- Administer vaccines, injectable and oral medications, breathing treatments, and other medications/treatments as directed by physician. Must check expiration dates prior to using medications.
- Maintain temperature logs of vaccine refrigerator and freezer
- Update and maintain accurate WebIZ information for patients
- Follow all rules and regulations by Vaccines for Children Program
- Process received vaccines in a timely manner
- Process lab specimens to be sent to correct labs (LabCorp, Quest, Renown)
- Coordinate labs and imaging orders for patients
- Follow up pending lab and imaging results and contact patients to get tests done.
- Fax orders when needed (i.e. home health or hospitals)
- Call insurance companies for authorizations when needed (referrals, labs, imaging, medications)
- Assist in providing consent for procedures
- Assist physician with procedures (i.e. urine caths)
- Act as witness or chaperone as needed
- Maintain current certificate for Basic Life Support
- Keep medical log books up to date
- Maintain nursing stations in clean working order
- Clean nursing stations and exam rooms with disinfectant sprays and wipes
- Follow HIPAA privacy policies
- Ensure proper storage of medical and back office supplies. Notify physician immediately for malfunctioning or missing equipment. Update supply order list to help maintain consistent inventory
- Stock supplies when arrive. Verify quantities using the packing slips/purchase orders. Checkmark each item on purchase order when quantity is verified. Highlight items that are not complete in orders and notify physician. Provide purchase orders/packing slips to physician. Carefully break down boxes to allow disposal at dumpster.
