Patient Registrar
Position Summary:
Patient Registrars collect patient information and complete a variety of administrative duties, such as verifying insurance, managing admissions and discharges, arranging for transfers, providing required information to medical staff, collecting co-pays, entering information into computer databases, and presenting hospital policies to patients.
Responsibilities:
Controls the flow of patients through the Emergency Department and outpatient registration access areas
Collects demographic and insurance information from incoming patients at the point of service
Verifies active payer sources for patients
Communicates basic financial policies as pertaining to insurance coverage
Obtains required signatures on the various clinical and financial consent forms
Creates image of insurance and identification cards
Collects pre-arranged deposits, self-pay deposits, and point of service copayments
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Works under immediate supervision
A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
Performs other related duties as assigned

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum of six months prior customer service experience required.
One year of experience and/or education in office procedures preferred.
Accurate by touch keyboarding skills with 35 wpm minimum typing speed.
Prior medical office and/or insurance billing experience highly desirable.
CNA or EMT training is helpful.
