Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Patient Financial Counselor Clerk to join our team!


JOB SUMMARY:
Work medical accounts prior to procedures or pain management appointments. Work with business office patient financial to obtain any patient information for the procedure/services. Contact insurance via phone and/or web to review patient benefits and calculate patient estimate portion based on benefits. Work with others in billing department and clinics to ensure patient is educated regarding cost of treatment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes rapport with business office patient financial to facilitate financial status prior to services.
  • Reviews schedule for all locations and providers and enters copay/coinsurance due.
  • Calls patients before visits to establish patient financial responsibility.
  • Calls patients to discuss all aspects of their upcoming bill/benefits.
  • The employee is required to comply with all PCI standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security.
  • Contacts private pay patients scheduled for procedure prior to admission, to find out payer source, call procedure center to cancel appointment if patient has no ability to pay or post-pones procedure until resources can be found.
  • Verifies demographic information and payment source for each procedure/visit.
  • Handles write up of ABN’s and send to appropriate personal.
  • Works with reception from all clinics to coordinate information and email/call business office patient financial to coordinate patient payments. Obtains a commitment as to a schedule of payment.
  • Works directly with reception from all offices to assist in insurance questions, and any other billing related questions.
  • Handles referrals from admissions if there is a problem with insurance.
  • Responds to requests from providers to call and talk with patients regarding pricing for pain management services.
  • Works directly with Billing Office in collections.
  • Contacts insured patient to review benefits and payment options.
  • Meets with patients in clinics and procedure centers to explain insurance benefits.
  • Must develop rapport and trust with the patients and families.
  • Telephone calls required as needed to patients, caregivers, offices, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Must maintain accurate time clock punches, punch in and out according to hospital policy.
  • Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings and completes annual educational requirements.
  • Must maintain a professional attitude at all times.
  • Attends all other meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High school degree or equivalent GED. AA or equivalent from two year college or technical school would be helpful.


Experience:
Two years of medical staff office work can be substituted for education requirement.


Equipment/Technology:
Strong computer skills a must. Knowledge of health insurance is a must.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concept of basic algebra and geometry.


Mental Capabilities:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to understand and fix mistakes in patient charts to ensure correct billing.
