Patient Care Assistant

Overview:Position #: 11283- Performs a variety of supportive and direct care functions, under the direction of an RN, enabling patient to perform daily hygienic, nutritional, ambulatory and other activities.
Responsibilities:- Performs safety and infection control techniques and functions in caring for the patient.
- Uses correct techniques and follows standard precautions in applying patient restraints and in transferring patients.
- Follows proper procedures and techniques to prevent falls and injuries.
- Performs a variety of supportive and direct care functions (e.g. basic oxygen therapy, heat and cold applications, basic dressings, antiembolism and sequential pressure stockings).
- Provides personal care (bathing, mouth care, AM/PM care, incontinence care) to patients.
- Collects stool, urine and sputum specimens.
- Provides for nutrition of patients (feeds, monitors tube feedings, calculates input and output, delivers nourishment, counts calories, weighs patients.)
- Performs phlebotomy and stocks phlebotomy and IV trays for unit.
- Performs EKG's and stocks and maintains supplies for the unit.
Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalency.
- One year previous experience as a nurse aide in a health care setting OR less than one year experience and enrolled in an accredited school of nursing.
- Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred. In lieu of CNA certification, successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.
