Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assists the Pathologist and Pathology Residents in all aspects of the processing of anatomic Pathology specimens, maintenance of proper records, and disposal of specimens
- Performs duties of Pathology Physicians’ Assistant that includes, but are not limited to, dissection and the description and photography of specimens received from operating physicians
- Assists in the performance of autopsies, including weekends
- Keeps records of specimens and maintains equipment used
- Assists in the maintenance of proper cleanliness and order in the Surgical Pathology Laboratory and in the disposal of specimens
- Assists in or performs specimen photography
- Meets criteria for competency assessment in all areas
- Accesses and prepares specimens for testing
- Enters specimens on log book or computer terminal as required
- Checks every entry in computer for accuracy
- Performs general housekeeping duties as assigned to maintain a safe and sanitary environment
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area
- Observes laboratory safety practices
Requirements:
- NYS Licensure as Pathologist Assistant required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science with at least 5 year of experience as Pathologist Assistant or
- Master’s degree in Pathology Assistant program with no experience
