Patent Docketing Specialist

Overview: McGuireWoods has a need for a Patent Docketing Specialist. This resource will be responsible for inputting and verifying information keyed into the computerized docketing system for multiple offices, providing detailed information on upcoming U.S. and foreign patent deadlines, reviewing/docketings/monitoring distribution of electronic mail and publishing the daily/monthly docket reminders.

Responsibilities: - Manages the docket workflow to meet critical and at times, non-extendible deadlines. Cross-checks entries made by other Patent Docketing Specialists for accuracy, grammatical and typographical errors to ensure quality assurance check-points have been conducted by each member of the team. Final review and approval is conducted by the Patent Manager.
- Provides detailed, accurate information to Patent attorneys, agents, technical advisors and staff in multiple offices on upcoming U.S. and foreign patent prosecution deadlines.
- Complies with firm-wide policies relating to docketing of Intellectual Property matters relating to international/ domestic cases and the procedures for maintaining all I/P matter records.
- Reviews, dockets and monitors timely distribution of the Patent staff electronic mail on a daily basis.
- Opens new files in docketing and accounting systems and performs initial file set-up.
- Reviews all USPTO filings for completion and accuracy and organizes paper filing with the USPTO when necessary.
- Trains Patent staff on use of docketing system including firm-wide policies and procedures for maintaining all patent matter records.
- Remains current with U.S. and foreign law changes and oversees dissemination of law changes to Patent attorneys, agents, technical advisors and staff.
- Performs due diligence and bills accordingly.
- Initiates conflicts checks according to MW policy.
Qualifications: - Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 3 plus years of comprehensive U.S. and Foreign docketing experience.
- Preferred experience with mainstream computer docketing systems such as CPI, Master Data, PATTSY, etc.
- Excellent verbal, written and grammatical skills.
- Excel, INPADOC, Derwent, Westlaw, Elite, PAIR, patent assignment database site and other related program and site experience preferred.
