Nixon Peabody has an immediate opening for a Patent Agent to join our Intellectual Property Practice Group. This position participates in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, with an emphasis on Electrical Engineering and Computer Science technologies, particularly those integrated into medical devices and other healthcare applications.

Location: Washington D.C.; Chicago, IL; or San Francisco, CA

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in evaluation, preparation and prosecution of patents and patent applications
  • Provide support for patent enforcement, licensing and business transactions
  • Perform infringement and validity analysis and general portfolio management
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and advanced degrees in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences; life sciences or post-doctoral research experience a plus
  • Minimum of four years of patent prosecution experience, preferably working at a law firm
  • Strong Electrical Engineering and Computer Science technical skills and understanding
  • Registration to practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office
  • Strong computer and internet research skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects on competing deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and demonstrated professionalism
  • Medical device/imaging, digital health, or bioinformatics technical experience a plus
