Function/Duties of Position: The Managed Care Coordinator is the primary phone contact for new patient accessing outpatient mental health care from faculty, residents, and fellows. This position answers intake calls, retrieves voicemails for the intake line, and is responsible for either redirecting calls to other, more appropriate service providers, or forwarding cases to the Intake Coordinator for clinical review and scheduling. Calls are triaged within 24 hours of initial contact. In addition, this position performs all routine managed care functions such as securing authorization and verifying eligibility and benefits with a variety of insurers, and acts as back-up registrar for new patients.
- Referral Coordination: responsible for answering the intake line for Adult Outpatient and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics. Conducts initial screening of service requests for faculty, residents, and fellows. Responsible for determining which calls should be routed to the Intake Coordinator in order to optimize the Intake Coordinator’s clinical time.
- Managed Care Coordination: Responsible for verifying insurance eligibility and securing referral/authorization prior to outpatient appointment. The authorization process includes, but is not limited to, entering referral information in Epic and tracking visits used per authorization. Maintains current contact and plan information on all managed care insurances.
- Liaison and Staff Resource: Services as liaison and information source for other department support staff, physicians, patients, including face-to-face patient service. Uses knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses and procedures and billing codes to communicate insurance issues with patients, providers, and staff.
- PAS Monitor: Monitors the Daily Activity report for Adult Outpatient, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics, and communicates business and clinical directives to PAS Specialist on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications:- One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of appointments and obtaining managed care authorizations
- Thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures
- Demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU
- Basic computer skills including MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions
- Demonstrated working knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred Qualifications:- AA in healthcare field OR BA/BS in any field
- One year of work experience in a psychiatry office setting
- Strong command of psychiatric insurance practices
- General knowledge of mental health practices
- Patient advocacy skills
- General knowledge of community mental health resources
- Experience working in Epic
