Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond – and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students. Today, our New York City network is comprised of seven elementary schools, seven middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Through College and Career, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 6000 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 700. KIPP NYC will provide a remote school option that is regionally operated to students who can not participate in in-person school due to a medical exemption. The remote school tutor will be responsible for tutoring (either 1:1 or small group) students in core subject areas by supporting them in remote learning assignments. Tutors will make connections with students to provide feedback, organize students’ instructional day, and support students in their learning. We are looking for tutors for Kindergarten, 6th Grade, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade students.

Duties includes but are not limited to:

  • Internalizing the remote learning curriculum that students are participating in to implement whole group and small group tutoring.
  • Grading and providing feedback on student work submitted and assigning grades to students.
  • Support in the preparation of materials and schedules for students in their caseload
  • Checking in weekly with the manager of a remote school.
  • Creating relationships with students and families to ensure student success in the remote learning program and providing follow up when necessary.
  • Committing to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration
  • Modeling a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure that each student is successful.
  • Modeling KIPP NYC’s character strengths in all interactions and communications with students, families, and staff.
Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude and a sense of humor.
  • School-based and student support experience strongly preferred
  • Undergraduate, graduate student, or non-student looking for hourly work
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn remote learning platforms: Zoom, Canvas, Clever, and other instructional platforms.
  • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
  • Interested in raising the achievement levels of students from the communities KIPP NYC serves
