JOB SUMMARY

  • This position will be primarily located at either Berry Springs Park & Preserve (1801 County Road 152, Georgetown), Champion Park /Brushy Creek Regional Trail (3830 Brushy Creek Road, Cedar Park) the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park (3005 County Road 175, Leander), River Ranch Park located between Leander and Liberty Hill or the Williamson County EXPO Center in Taylor.
  • Performs manual labor tasks required to maintain county parks, facilities and equipment.
  • Works with the public while assisting with operations of a park.
  • Duties include mowing grass and clearing foliage; preparing facilities such as pavilions, sports fields, playgrounds and camping grounds; cleaning park grounds, restrooms and other facilities; and maintaining and repairing park equipment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Maintains plants and turf, propagates, cultivates, and/or trims grass, trees, flowers, shrubs, and brush, utilizing various light equipment and hand tools.
  • Performs tasks at work sites, including plumbing, painting, landscaping, cleaning, mowing, irrigation, carpentry and other minor maintenance.
  • Operates a variety of motorized equipment and hand-held tools.
  • Ability to work with various public groups in a variety of situations.
  • Cleans and maintains safety standards in shop area, and cleans park restrooms, facilities and grounds.
  • Clears fallen limbs and foliage from public use areas.
  • Maintains trails and amenities of park grounds.
  • Assists in the construction, assembly and maintenance of parks and recreation equipment.
  • Facilitates reservations for camping, pavilion usage as well as special events.
  • Assists volunteer groups (provide equipment and materials, keep records of work performed)
  • Frequently communicates with the office support staff, other County personnel.
  • Readily complies with departmental and countywide policies and procedures.
  • Performs related special projects as assigned.
  • The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent sitting, reading, data entry, filing, standing, bending, lifting of up to 80 pounds, walking, climbing, driving, and operating equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
  • Outdoor work with exposure to dust, heat, cold, and noise.
  • Risk factors associated with machinery and equipment.
  • Williamson County has adopted a Tobacco-Free Workplace policy. This policy prohibits smoking or use of any tobacco product on Williamson County premises. Williamson County and Cities Health District offers a smoking cessation program, free to all employees and spouses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Skill and ability in grounds, facility and equipment maintenance, basic landscaping, and basic plumbing, electrical and/or carpentry.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions, operate common office equipment, operate hand tools and simple machinery.
  • General facility cleaning and maintenance.
  • Safe operation of light and heavy motorized equipment.
  • Strong safety awareness.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be mature, dependable, resourceful, and able to work independently and to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Subject to criminal background check.
  • Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
EMPLOYMENT TESTING:
  • Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment, and periodic drug testing and criminal background investigations.

IRREGULAR HOURS:
  • Works weekends and holidays.
  • Non-Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations; unless employees are designated by Department Heads or employees are in other offices that are open.

  • Vacation and sick time accrued at a pro-rated basis for employees working over 20 hours per week.
