The AstraZeneca Newark Supply Site in Newark, DE, was established in 1971 and currently employs approximately 260 people. As a Packaging Mechanic Operator, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. This is a second shift position (4p - 2:30a) Monday through Thursday to include supporting other shifts and overtime.

This position is primarily responsible for multi-craft maintenance activities in assigned areas to ensure production equipment operates reliably, efficiently, and in compliance with FDA requirements.

What you will do:

  • Perform Preventive and Predictive Maintenance on equipment including Inspections, Calibrations, and scheduled overhauls. Perform mechanical and electrical equipment repairs including set-up/change-over, routine adjustments, and fabrication.

  • Operate packaging equipment (tablet fillers, thermoformers, labelers, case packers, etc.) in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Use analytical troubleshooting skills and Lean Leadership behaviors to recognize equipment problems, identify root causes, and recommend/implement solutions that prevent problem reoccurrence. Participate in cross-functional teams as assigned to support continuous improvement or equipment installation/modification as well as deviation investigations and help drive to root cause using tools such as 5- Why.

  • Work with Supervisors, Operators, Engineers, and other Mechanics to identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment/production efficiencies.

  • Perform and document work in compliance with SOP’s, Safety Health & Environment, standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to include work orders, PMs, logbooks, and permits.

  • Respond to multiple equipment/production problems and prioritize or change assignments as needed to meet production demands.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma / GED

Essentials:

  • Minimum of three years' experience as an industrial maintenance mechanic in a production environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all the following areas and certification /advanced training in at least two of the following: Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Instrumentation, and Controls and/or Fabrication/Machine Shop.

  • Ability to work as needed during other shifts and weekends when production and/or equipment maintenance coverage is needed.

  • Good interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.

Preferred:

  • AAS in an Engineering Technology.

  • Completion of a state-accredited Journeyman or technical school program, or equivalent formal education and field experience, demonstrating commensurate proficiency in at least two of the following areas: Mechanical maintenance of production equipment, Utility systems maintenance, and repair, Electrical Maintenance, Instrumentation, and Controls.

  • Mechanical Fabrication/Machine Shop Understanding and operational familiarity with PC/PLC control systems.

  • Pharmaceutical/ cGMP maintenance training and experience.

  • Solid Oral Dose packaging equipment maintenance experience including bottle and blister packaging equipment training and experience.
