Hours per week: 10-35 hours varies on availability, experience, and training
Hours of work: Monday - Friday (some weekend). Mainly 8:00am - 4:00pm (some evening).
Salary: $15/hour
Essential Functions:
Facilitating outdoor experiential activities including Canoeing, Kayaking, Team Building (low and high challenge courses), environmental education, orienteering, night hikes, etc.
Required knowledge:
- Experience and/or desire to work with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds in outdoor experiential education based settings Willingness to travel to program site locations in various areas in and around the city of Madison
- Enthusiasm for facilitating individuals and groups through experiential practices
- Ability to generate excitement, concern and respect for the outdoors in multiple settings with youth and adults
- Have a commitment to the mission and vision of MSCR and the goals of MSCR's Outdoor Programs
- Attendance in Trainings: 3/30/21 - Kick Off Meeting, 4/6/21- Facilitation Principles, 4/12/21- Low Course, 4/13/21- High Course, 4/20/21- High Course, 4/21/21- Orienteering, 5/1/21- Paddling
Minimum Qualifications:
- Willingness to work outdoors for up to 8 hours
- Certified or able to obtain certification in CPR
- Ability to complete all hiring procedures including background check and TB Risk Assessment
- Ability to follow and enforce all Health and Safety requirements related to COVID-19
- Function as an effective team member; ability to be flexible with schedule changes and customers needs
Desired qualifications:
- Comfortable managing a small group of youth or adults in programs
- Able to assess groups and individuals to select appropriate activities
- Secondary language skills in Spanish or Hmong Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) FI-FII certifications or logged facilitator hours to attest to technical and facilitation skills
- American Canoe Association (ACA) Canoe and/or Kayak
- Level 1 certification or logged hours to attest to paddling and facilitation skills
- Knowledge of regional flora and fauna including woods, ponds, and prairies
- Previous experience teaching environmental education concepts
- Other certifications or background knowledge of environmental curriculum
