This recruitment will be used to fill eight part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) OSU GO Peer Advisor position for the Office of Global Opportunities at Oregon State University (OSU).

The OSU GO Peer Advisor Program is a leadership and professional development program for students who want to engage with OSU’s diverse student population, particularly underrepresented groups, to promote the internationalization of their peers’ experience at OSU. Peer Advisors represent the Office of Global Opportunities by serving as advocates for academic and pre-professional international and cross-cultural experiences. They effectively communicate the accessibility and benefits of participating in OSU GO-approved programs to their peers. Peer Advisors practice their public relations and marketing skills through social media campaigns and presentations designed for current and prospective students. They support OSU GO’s administrative work by assisting with special outreach projects and clerical work. In alignment with their own skills and interests, Peer Advisors are encouraged to propose new ways to reach potential students and educate the campus on the mission and value of international education. Peer Advisors are a vital component in motivating students to take advantage of the varied opportunities offered by the Office of Global Opportunities.Position Duties

• Conduct initial 1:1 advising with prospective students
• Connect students with appropriate support and advising offices for additional resources
• Conduct general group advising for prospective students (ex. classroom visits, affinity group visits, admissions events, and global opportunity fairs)
• Provide general information about all OSU GO-approved programs
• Manage online student advising applications
• Manage social media and implement print marketing campaigns
• Plan, facilitate, and/or participate in outreach events (ex. global opportunity fairs and pre-departure orientation)
• Connect with program alumni to solicit marketing materials and facilitate connections with prospective students
• Weekly team check-ins, biweekly team training meetings, and monthly 1:1 meetings with supervisor
• Respond to general inquiries from students, parents, and community (email, phone, drop-ins)

• Curiosity about cross-cultural competence and experiences
• Engaging communication in marketing, public relations/speaking, and interpersonal communications
• Effective organizational skills and time management
• Effective collaborative work with peers and supervisors using formal and informal communication (ex. email, Slack, and in-person conversations)
• Competent use of / willingness to increase proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office software, Canvas, Calendly/Bookings, Teams, Slack, Zoom, Instagram/Social Media, Canva (design website)

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications

• Deeper understanding of cross-cultural competence from lived experience or prior international educational experiences
• Connections across campus with OSU academic units/colleges, student life, residential life, athletics, and any/all other student groups and organizations.
• Ability to articulate the benefits of experiential learning either from experience or theoretical understanding

Working Conditions / Work SchedulePeer Advisors are expected to work between 10-15 hours per week during the entire academic year. Availability during summer term and/or for multiple years is preferred. Posting Number P07557SE
