About Network Infrastructure
The mission of the Network Infrastructure (NI) Business Group is to be the most trusted partner for the world’s most critical network infrastructure. NI will respond to the ever-increasing demand for networks with higher capacity, greater reliability, faster speeds, and lower costs.
Job Position Description:
The Network Infrastructure group is seeking a highly-skilled Optical Network Integration Planner to join the group.
Job Responsibilities & Competencies
Optical Network Integration Planner to provide optical network integration services for turn-key optical network solutions to a variety of telecommunication customers in North America.
Perform the following tasks to support optical network deployments and upgrades:

  • Work with customers and outside contractors to collect outside plant fiber optic characterization data, analyze this data and approve the associated spans.
  • Review, modify and validate designs.
  • Create network commissioning and network test procedures and review these with customers and Nokia field engineers.
  • Troubleshoot issues that Nokia field engineers are unable to resolve on their own and escalate to Nokia’s Technical Assistance Center when it’s appropriate to do so.
  • Review final as-built network configurations and network test results and confirm that networks are ready for handover.
  • Create turnover packages to summarize the above information and obtain customer acceptance.
  • Assist in improving processes and tools for the above tasks.

Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)
Education and Work Experience:
Candidates should have a BS in Engineering or Computer Science (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred) and 8 to 10 years of network integration, technical support or systems test experience with optical network technologies.
General Technical Knowledge / Expertise:
Candidates should have technical knowledge/expertise in the following areas:
  • Fiber Types (multimode and single-mode (Dispersion Unshifted, Dispersion Shifted and Non Zero Dispersion Shifted)) and Signal Impairments in Fiber (Loss, Dispersion and Mixing)
  • Basic Components (Lasers, Photodiodes, Couplers, Filters, Wavelength Selective Switches and Amps)
  • Modulation / Demodulation (OOK, PSK and QAM)
  • Signal Structures and Hierarchies (Ethernet, Fiber Channel, SONET, SDH and OTN)
  • Synchronization, Error Correction and Traffic Protection (BLSR/MSP and UPSR/SNCP)
  • DWDM Node Configurations (FOADM, TOADM and ROADM)
  • CLI and TL1 Command Sets
  • Ethernet, Switching and Routing Protocols
  • Test Gear (Fiberscopes, Power Meters, Optical Spectrum Analyzers, Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, Chromatic Dispersion, Polarization Mode Dispersion and Signal Transmission / Bit Error Ratio)

Product Specific Knowledge / Expertise:
  • Candidates should have technical knowledge/expertise with the 1830 (technical knowledge/expertise with the 1850 TSS, 1625 Lambda Xtreme and 1675 Lambda Unite will also be advantages) or equivalent product lines from other vendors.

Other General Skills:
  • Candidates should have strong organizational, communications, interpersonal and time management skills, be able to work with little or no supervision and be able to move back and forth between and meet closely spaced deadlines for high-quality deliverables on several concurrent projects.

Salary Range*: $75K/yr - $140K/yr
  • Nokia maintains broad salary ranges for its roles to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions, as well as reflect Nokia’s differing products, industries and lines of business. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
