Your Specific Responsibilities:

• Time sheet and EAR entry within the required time frame
• Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
• Completion of all mandatory or assigned trainings within the required time frame
• Expected to promote Florida Department of Health in Citrus County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts and its vision to be the healthiest state in the nation. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to incorporate the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence in all aspects of their work.
• Work performed includes but not limited to indoor filing, greeting the public, outdoor environmental compliance work, assisting with site evaluations, soil profiles (digging holes using a six-foot auger) on unimproved and un-cleared acreage and/or land parcels in think vegetation in all types of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, high humidity, exposure to insects and other natural hazards, encountering raw sewage and other adverse and unpleasant conditions.
• Perform investigations for identifying, abating, or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that adversely affect either the environment, property, or the health of the population. Incumbents use knowledge of various scientific disciplines and may collect, synthesize, study, investigate, report, and act based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. Communicates with the public in a clear, concise, understandable, tactful and professional manner.
• Provides accurate written reports as required and participates in hearings and court cases as required.
• Environmental field work not requiring certification as an Environmental Health Professional. For example, collects water samples, conducts regulatory inspections of sanitary nuisances, and performs routine inspections of Limited Use Wells, Mobile Home/RV Parks, Public Swimming Pools, Tanning, and other facilities as assigned.
• Inputs complete inspections into Environmental Health Database.
• Reports to the Environmental Supervisor I
• Attends various professional conferences and short course seminars to further knowledge and keeps abreast of new developments in the field of Environmental health.
• Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Has computer access to HMS system. Adheres to Confidentiality and Security policies and procedures.
• Responsible for securing the designated information set for protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access, for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy or electronic formats.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of Florida Administrative Codes governing Food, Group Care, Tanning, Limited Use Wells, Pools, Sanitary Nuisances, MHPs, Storage Tanks and ability to learn others as needed. Ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills. Skill maintaining and using temperature sensing equipment. Ability to keeps calibration logs. Knowledge of office computer software. Skill in the use of personal computers. Skill with hand tools and manual labor implements such as a shovel. Ability to use soil testing equipment. Ability to read blueprints and surveys. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to use laser equipment. Ability to lift 58 pounds or more. Ability to solve problems using mathematics and scientific methods. Ability to maintain a valid FL Driver’s License. Ability to use measuring devices. Ability to record data by writing legibly and drawing to scale. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work independently. Ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills.

Qualifications:

Minimum - bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science.

Preferred - Certified Environmental Health Professional (CEHP) in OSTDS pursuant to Florida Administrative Code 64E-18.
