Position Summary:

The Ophthalmic Scribe/Tech (medical assistant) position allows you to work daily while providing direct hands-on care to our patients and physicians. Our clinical staff report high levels of satisfaction with their roles at Central Florida Eye Specialists because they get to play a vital role in helping save peoples sight each and every day. Though the days may be long and busy, we find the results to be well worth the effort.


Our ophthalmic technicians and scribes (medical assistants) gather information from patients, take images, notate information into patient charts, and help set up for exams and treatments, document the physician dictated patient encounter - and so much more! This position is great for those interested in veterinary technician, medical assistant, behavioral technician, phlebotomist, radiology technician and more. We will train the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities:

  • History taking
  • Visual acuity measurement
  • Refractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription)
  • Tonometry (measure eye pressure)
  • Measure pupil size and reactivity
  • Test and measure eye muscle function
  • Visual field testing
  • Corneal thickness measurement
  • Corneal curvature measurement
  • Corneal topography
  • Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement
  • Retinal thickness and topography
  • Fluorescein angiography
  • A and B-scan ultrasonography
  • Assist with contact lens fitting, and patient instruction
  • Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures
  • Surgical assisting

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical work experience NOT required, but it can increase your starting rate
  • Demonstrated effectiveness showing courtesy, diligence, integrity, and teamwork
  • Strong interpersonal skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, warm demeanor)
  • Able to work long and irregular hours, and travel to different locations based on clinic needs
  • Ability to master ophthalmology terminology
  • Required to have reliable transportation between local clinics during the workday (mileage is reimbursed)
  • High School Graduate

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in a busy optometry, ophthalmology and/or retina clinic
  • COA, COT, or COMT certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to view patient images and operate computer devices
  • Ability to converse with patients - speaking and hearing
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse
  • Near constant standing and walking
  • Manual dexterity to operate ophthalmic equipment

Other Position Details:

  • Schedule varies depending on assigned role and/or assigned physician
  • Monday to Friday schedule
  • Uniform/Scrub allowance of $200
