Our local Customer Service Center is considered to be LSG Sky Chef's flagship facility in North America and is based in Des Plaines, near Chicago O’Hare airport, one of about 40 facilities in North America.
We are seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Operations Supervisor / Assembly Department who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and enjoys managing a group of employees that are focused on delivering a quality product/service to our customers.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Assembly department of our airline catering operation assembles all the beverage supply, packaged food items and serving supplies/equipment into carts for our airline customers. The supervisor works inside the Customer Service Center, directing and overseeing the activities of assembly line personnel throughout their shift. Assembly supervisors generally split their time between an office area, where they manage schedules and oversee production-reporting activities, and the production floor, where they directly supervise employees.
This first-line supervisory role requires extensive assembly production experience and familiarity with best practices in high volume, fast-paced production. Assembly supervisors ensure that the production environment is safe for employees by conducting safety training and inspections. Additionally, are in charge of onboarding and training new employees and occasionally fill in on the assembly line.
The primary duty of an assembly supervisor is overseeing and directing the activities of assembly line employees. They may assign personnel to specific tasks or stations, monitor processes to ensure that employees perform them correctly, and monitor the entire assembly process to prevent delays and provide instruction. This aspect of the role requires the assembly supervisor to ensure that individual assembly department units work together as a team and communicate effectively to assure a timely completion of the assembly production process.
The Assembly Supervisor is responsible for supervise a shift of 40 to 50 employees.
Managing Business
- Implement department short -term operation plan in coordination with other relevant interfaces. Ensure efficient and timely corrective actions in case of significant deviations.
- Oversee the department economic and operating performance. Ensure that the department is managed and controlled efficiently in line with the company’s framework and market requirements.
- Support and implement the principles of Lean manufacturing
- Provide data for the development of an annual business plan and budgeting for department
- Ensure optimal deployment of human, technical and material resources in the department
- Ensure that department work methods are in line with the company’s standards and customer contracts
- Responsible for department costs to budget through effective manpower planning, scheduling and overtime usage
- Implement and sustain the LSG Production System in areas of operation
- Ensure par levels of customer inventory and customer specific goods to provide required service
- Maintain an ongoing, positive and pro-active relationship with all internal and external customers
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), safety, health, environmental and other regulations
- Investigate customer quality issues, develop and implement corrective actions
- Participate in the daily operations briefing
Leadership
- Ensure that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed and directed.
- Manage, guide, motivate and develop the subordinate employees within the Human Resources Policy.
- Participates in coaching the expanded Global Performance System (GPS) process, as well as additional career development activities to enhance the effectiveness and potential of the team.
- Make the company's values and management principles live in the department(s).
- Plan / Implement and control the cost budget in the area of responsibility; initiate and steer corrective actions in case of deviations.
- Participate and support company-sponsored initiatives such as Global Quality Standard (GQS), HACCP, LSG Production Systems, Employee Safety.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Production Operations, Logistics or other related field OR equivalent experience required.
- In addition, 3-5 years directly relevant operational experience required either in high volume Manufacturing / Assembly operations, Food Production, Warehousing or Transportation.
- Strong presentation, communication, training and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record in Lean manufacturing and success in implementation of re-designed processes.
- Ability to develop and lead others to obtain desired results & achieve budget.
- Experience in managing a manpower planning and scheduling tool (i.e. VPS)
- Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), FDA, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements.
- Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and HACCP Guidelines.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual skills.
- Demonstrable record of understanding and meeting customer expectations.
- Proven track record of understanding the drivers of product and labor cost Variances.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications.
