Work Environment: The Operations Manager(OM) role provides critical tactical support to our Delivery Associates (DA) working out of a delivery station .This is a unique hybrid role in our organization with the singular purpose of ensuring we consistently meet our goals of delivering Amazon packages to customer's homes and businesses.You will be tasked to wear multiple hats – covering fleet, compliance and operations. As an OM, you will ensure our teams have the correct number of vehicles to support the number of routes on any given day. You will be proficient at helping teams identify and systematically track compliance needs to maintain safe and reliable operations. And from time-to-time, you will be also called upon to support Operations during periods of escalated logistical challenges.This position requires exceptional communication and planning skills. It is important to note OM’s work under tight deadlines all the time. We need people who are reliable, safe, and determined to work every scheduled day. You must have the ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment and be able to exercise sound judgement on a wide range of issues and topics. Ideal candidates have a background in transportation and excellent data driven problem resolution skills. They can immediately grasp the long-term value of well-planned safety and compliance programs.
Job Responsibilities
OM’s develop and promote a strong culture of safety and compliance and possess a bias to get things done right. You will be required to work with team members to analyze data, make recommendations and drive process improvements. The position functions as the safety champion and help strengthens our cultural values across the business. The role may also provide needed support other teams while they are on the road.
Flexibility is key in the role as OM’s also manage and oversee the station coordinate load out, rescues and perform other end of day tasks. The following represents a typical day:
- Review route commitments and inventory vehicles to determine proper vehicle allocations for cost-effective operations and future growth, including the ability to order and return rental vehicles as required
- Ensure vehicle road worthiness by working with DAs to maintain safety requirements, ground vehicles and ensure a replacement vehicle is available; champion team compliance to all vehicle inspection safety requirements
- Work with teams to coordinate all repairs utilizing a combination of company vendors and 3rd party resources, provide recommendations on what vehicle inventory is required so standard repairs can be made quickly with little to no downtime on vehicles (e.g. shop supplies, special tools, mirrors, lights, bulbs, wiper fluid, etc.); coordinate with team members to facilitate the movement of vehicles to/from repair shops and cleaning facilities
- Organize or help with emergency field repairs (e.g. minor field repairs, pull-puts, tire changes, tows, etc.
- Oversee collection and maintenance of all vehicle records (i.e. mileage, inspection data, maintenance data, maintenance schedule, vehicle registration, insurance information, rental reporting, DOT compliance data, etc.) for safety and compliance purposes while maintaining zero operational downtime
- Manage and oversee the collection of all accident tracking information (signed DA written statements, 3rd party information, photos, claims data, etc.); recommended action to DAs and Corporate, and work with internal and external insurance providers to complete the claims process
- Design and implementing an off-site parking and dispatch plan consistent with the needs of the Delivery Station for vehicle parking and vehicle movements in/out of the facility
- Maintain contact with DAs throughout their shifts and address any issues they might have and relay any emergencies they have to the appropriate channels; maintain continual communication with external customers and suppliers
- Monitor performance metrics and participate in meetings with team members to celebrate performance attainment, highlight performance inefficiencies, and rectify root causes for violations and negative customer impact scenarios
- OverseeDA’s load vehicles and are OTD (packages are presorted at the Delivery Station),
- Oversee Dispatch and Rover Operations for DAs and coordinate rescues with other DA’s and mobile dispatch, ability to deliver packages to homes and businesses (where applicable)
- Review fuel reports and highlight discrepancies to DAs and management
- Ensure team adherence to DVCR Pre and Post-trip inspection and update applicable systems and logs
·Go over DSMO Reports with your VP of Operations to evaluate your Team’s Performance for Coaching Opportunities
- Debrief with team members to close out the day.
Minimum Qualifications: Delivery Leads must meet the following requirements to successfully handle and deliver packages to customers on time:
- Must be at least 23+ years old with a valid driver's license within the state of employment
- Must have previous commercial or professional safety, fleet management or compliance program management experience in transportation; experience coaching, training and leading drivers using telematics and other tools
- Must maintain 100% adherence to work standards
- Basic ability to pull data from numerous data sources using a variety of data management tools and perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis
- Ability to conform to various time constraints based on business needs
- Ability to identify, solve or escalate business challenges
- Be able to interact in a positive and professional manner with customers, partners and other team members
- Must be able to safely operate and navigate a delivery van, GVWR 10,000 lbs. or less
- Must be able to load and unload packages up to a maximum 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation, during a 10-hour work shift
- Applicants must be willing to consent to a drug screening
- Must comply with company procedures, DOT policies, state driving laws other and other safety standards
- Must be able to handle the challenging workload and driving demands, including comfortable driving and working in varying weather conditions and in evenings with limited visibility
- Ability to conduct team performance reviews, give and receive constructive criticism
- Able to speak and read English
- Use hand-held device for routing and customer delivery information
- Punctual and reliable to meet stringent attendance standards
- Use company issued phone with designated apps to accurately deliver customer packages, manage delivery progress, and solve obstacles
- Ability to set up accounts and use company designated applications and company email
- Safely maneuver vehicles to avoid incidents or accidents with people, vehicles or property
Additional QualificationsAdditional technical, customer service, and leadership skills are highly valued.
- Self-motivated and entrepreneurial spirit
- MS Office experience required, with advanced level in Excel (v-lookup, pivot tables, macros, etc.)
- Former dispatch, brokerage or driver management background is a plus
- Firm understanding of US DOT regulations
- Experience interacting with Element (Xcelerate), eMentor/Geo-tab, rental companies (Hertz/Merchant Fleet), body shops, tow companies, parts suppliers, etc.
- Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma processes
- Advanced knowledge of data management and data quality control with experience pulling and analyzing sets of data
- Outcome oriented – experience managing/coaching teams by metrics/scorecards
- Able to drive change initiatives and lead projects
Salary and Benefits:
- Pay Rate: $45,000/yr. annually
