Description of Position
The Nursing Assistant is a trained professional who has direct care with customers and is responsible for the professional and attentive direct care for their personal needs. The Nursing Assistant delivers quality care in a dignified and compassionate manner, using skills to meet the environmental, physical, and psychosocial needs of the customer. He/she is aware that consumers may be frail or have cognitive disabilities. He/she is a part of the interdisciplinary staff team and works together with others to carry out treatment plans that are designed to enhance the therapeutic environment in a residential living arrangement.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of accredited CNA program
Professional Credentials/Certifications
- Delaware certification as a certified nursing assistant
- Relias trainings as assigned
- CPR and First Aid Certification
Position Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and clean three year MVR (motor vehicle record)
Responsibilities
- Efficiently uses Carelogic in a timely manner
- Observes urine and prepares urine samples for testing.
- Completes other medical procedures related to medication assisted treatment within the scope and practice as ordered by a physician
- Provides health education services for participants.
- Maintains the clinical file for assigned service recipients to include
- written assessments within assigned time frame
- Prepares and presents of treatment plans within assigned time frame
- Documents of services and response to treatment.
- Participates in treatment planning and case conferences with other program personnel.
- Maintains a therapeutic alliance with service recipients
- Refers and linking participants to all needed services;
- Coordinates the provision of emergency services as needed;
- Provides support and consultation with service recipients’ families
- Provides supportive counseling to service recipients
- Documents and keeps other staff aware of changes in the participant’s status.
- Provides nursing care and gives guidance to service recipients and other personnel in the management of recipients’ physical and mental health needs
- Manages the storage and administration of medications and treatments, ensuring compliance with applicable licensing regulations and statutes, including the Delaware Nurse Practice Act and Delaware Board of Pharmacy Regulations pertaining to Pharmaceutical Service in Medication Assisted Treatment programs
- Other duties as assigned

- Problem Solving: Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. Properly assign duties to culinary team members based on organization’s needs and staff’s skill set.
- Inductive Reasoning: Excellent observation skills of all aspects of consumer behavior and the ability to anticipate problems before they happen.
- Written Communication: Ability to document medicines taken, behaviors observed, records crisis details in accurate and timely manner if necessary
- Oral Communication: Ability to relate and convey concise reports to team to provide accurate reports to team so everyone can administer appropriate care
- Quality Control: Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality, especially with regard to medication assistance and medical compliance, taking of vital signs and monitoring of blood glucose levels
- Adaptability: Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and demonstrate ability to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events and ability to work under emergency conditions.
- Stress Tolerance: Recognize crisis situations and react to such in a calm, mature manner; accept criticism and deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations; and the ability to identify, react to, and report security concerns.
- Visual: Requires clarity of vision at distances of 20 inches or less.
