Newspaper Carrier Details

Danna LLC - Shawnee, KS

Employment Type : Full-Time

What's the Schedule?

This is a 52-week per year responsibility. The papers are published 6 days per week (Sunday to Friday) all year round, including holidays. It will be your responsibility to ensure that those papers get delivered every single day as well.

You can do this any way you like: deliver them yourself, work with a partner, even subcontract to another driver. But you are responsible to make sure every paper arrives at the right location and on time.

There is no delivery on Saturdays.

What's a Typical Night Like?
Your night begins with picking up the papers. You will come to your warehouse starting at 12 Midnight.

When you arrive, you will pick up your night’s share of newspapers. You will also pick up plastic bags for the papers.

Bagging the papers is required. You can do the bagging at the warehouse, or take them with you and bag them as you drive your route.

Your next step is to start your route. You will drive the same route every night.

You will have a Route Book, which contains each stop on the route that gets papers, any special instructions for that stop, and driving directions to the next stop. It’s a step-by-step guide that lays out your entire route.

The route book is a guide, but you can deliver the papers in any order you want. As you work the same route each day, you’re sure to find shortcuts and tricks to speed up the time.

You must be finished with your deliveries by 6:30 AM every day.

When your delivery is finished, you’re done. You may go home or anywhere else you want.

How Long Will It Take?
Daily delivery will take 3 – 4 hours from start to finish. The exact time depends on the location of the route and the number of papers you will be delivering.

The typical load is about 300 papers during the week, and 375 on Sunday.

So the job will require 18 – 24 hours per week. Even though it is 6 days, it is still a part time job.

What Does It Pay?
Depending on the size of the route, the position typically pays between $150 and $800 per week. You will be paid weekly, by direct deposit.

Can I Earn More?
Yes. There are several options:

  • Once you get up to speed, you may be able to deliver two routes in one night. This will double your pay.
  • Additionally, our customers are encouraged to leave tips. Many of them are generous when they receive good service.

What Do I Need?
To qualify for this contract, you will need:

· Age 18 and older

· Reliable transportation - a car, SUV or pickup truck in good condition

· Proof of insurance

· A valid Driver’s License from any state

· Eligible to work in the US

· Smart phone

· Direct deposit

BACKGROUND CHECKS AND DRUG TESTS ARE NOT REQUIRED

Can I Have Help?
Absolutely. You can have someone help you with the deliveries. In fact, we encourage it. This is a great way to train your backup, if you have one.
Why Should I Have a Backup?
52 weeks per year is a tough schedule, and our staff is stretched very thin. If you do not come in one day, it is very difficult for us to cover for you. A backup will make things easier for everyone, including you.

The backup will have to have the same qualifications as you do for the job (car, insurance, etc.)

What Is My Job Status?
You're going to be an independent 1099 contractor, not an employee of The Star.
