SUMMARY OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM:

All newly licensed CNA applicants will be required to attend a 4-week Star Tech Program.
The Star Tech Program is designed for certified nursing assistants to work on Medical/Surgical Nursing Units. The program is comprised of didactic training, skills training, and clinical preceptorship at the sponsoring facility. Star Tech Program is concentrated training prior to hospital employment. The licensed certified nursing assistant is not only oriented to the facility in which he/she will be working, but is better prepared for standard patient care assignments in an acute care setting upon successful completion of the 3-week program.
The first week include a combination of didactic education and skills training.
The remaining two weeks are spent at the sponsoring facility working with a “Certified Nurse Assistant Buddy” and supervised by a HCA Registered Nurse.
The Star Tech learner will work 3 - twelve hour (12hr) shifts during each week of the Clinical Preceptorship, which may include weekend shifts or night shifts, based on the preceptorship schedule and needs of the nursing unit.
The Star Tech Program is based upon the standards established by the State Boards of Nursing for C.N.A.’s. Many of the division and/or facility specific training initiatives will be incorporated into the curriculum as well. Learners will be BLS and CPI certified. Nursing assistants will be introduced and trained on the facility Electronic Health Record by HealthTrust. HealthTrust Workforce is part of Parallon Business Solutions; a subsidiary of HCA (Hospital Corporation of America).
The participating nursing assistants make a one-year commitment work at the sponsoring hospital. Nursing assistants will be obligated to repay a pro-rated portion of the educational costs should they break that commitment.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living.
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the PCT’s skills/training and the needs of the Department, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment.
The PCT complies with all hospital policies/procedures and observes the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.
