Primary Responsibilities:
- Greets patients in the waiting area in a friendly, prompt, and helpful manner.
- Checks in patients, verify insurances, updates necessary information in the system, and collects copays and other forms of payment.
- Promptly answers incoming phone calls.
- Maintains a neat and orderly waiting room.
- Assists patients with ambulatory difficulties, including obtaining wheelchairs and providing assistance with walking.
- Assures patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, escort patients to the discharge counter.
- Perform additional clerical duties as necessary.
Clinical Training Offered:
- Obtain patient history; assess/triage patients, measure vital signs, and record information on the chart.
- Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
- Position instruments and equipment and hand to the physician as directed.
- Administer injections, medications, oxygen, respiratory treatments, conduct ear irrigations, dress/bandage wound, and incisions, start/monitor IV, draw blood and assist physicians and/or advanced practitioners with any procedures.
- Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiographs, pulse ox, peak flow, and breath alcohol testing.
- Perform CLIA-waived point of care lab tests, complete lab QA/QC testing and documentation, draw blood, and complete labels and process specimens for send-out.
- Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory.
- Remove sutures/staples and change dressings.
- Where applicable, perform basic x-rays or assist radiology technologists with x-ray set-up.
- Complete medical chart to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
- Perform patient callbacks, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
- Perform quality checks on medical equipment.
- Perform additional duties as requested.
Key Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assisting.
- Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology.
- Knowledge of and ability to follow OSHA/HIPAA guidelines
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment (blood borne pathogen exposure safety)
- Knowledge of basic standards of care and general policies related to patient care
- CPR certification.
- Medication administration knowledge and skills
- Ability to work all shifts including, day, night, and weekend hours as needed.
- Ability to escort or transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher when appropriate.
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records.
- Types 25 words per minute with 96% accuracy.
- Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Completes skills competency validation prior to independently performing procedures or technical skills on patients.
