SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Our Chaplaincy staff is trained?to provide religious care in this challenging environment, and has proven to be knowledgeable about the developmental and spiritual issues unique to children. Working as part of the pediatric healthcare team, our chaplains share the task of bringing wholeness and health to patients and families.?Chaplains assess how patients and families use religion/spirituality for meaning-making, coping, and medical decision-making, and provide this information to the interdisciplinary care team for integration into the plan of care. Chaplains also provide religious/spiritual and emotional support to staff. Bereavement Coordinators provide assessments and direct care to families whose children (or loved ones in the case of adult patients) have died; they also provide bereavement support to staff. This .2 FTE would be for a Muslim Chaplain who would see patients of all faith traditions and would be especially helpful to Muslim patients, families and staff members. The Muslim Chaplain would need to work on Fridays and lead weekly Juma prayers.


REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patient Care
Visit patients and families. Assess the spiritual and religious resources of patients and families. Function as member of the interdisciplinary team. Assist local clergy in their ministry to patients and families. Respond to all medical team and trauma pages. Provide end of life care support and documentation. Provides pastoral care to staff members as needed and appropriate, including formal and informal staff debriefings.
  • Staff Care
Provide pastoral care to staff members as needed and appropriate. Provides staff debriefings as needed in times of crisis. Participates in staff meetings on assigned units, rounds, etc. as appropriate
  • Liaison
Helps orient visiting clergy to CCHMC and its policies. Helps educate staff about specific religious needs and issues of patients and families which affect their care and treatment. Facilitates communication between clergy, CCHMC staff and members of their congregation who are patients at CCHMC.
  • Training & Education
Assists with orientation of new physicians and nurses to pastoral care. Serves as a resource for the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. Assists in recruitment, interviewing and selection of students. Helps orient CPE students to their unit(s). Facilitates students' clinical involvement. Assists in other dimension of CPE programs as requested and appropriate.
  • Compliance
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE



Required:
  • Masters degree in related field. May require clinical license, certification or training
  • 0 - 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline
Muslim with post-graduate religious education.
Preferred:Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to participate in the CCHMC CPE program to complete four units of CPE. Unique Skills:Muslim by education and practice.
