Job Description

The Dean of Student Supports is a full-time leadership position responsible for supporting the academic needs of students needing additional services, including students with IEPs, students with 504 plans, and students identified as English Language Learners. Leading a team of Learning Specialists, this person is responsible for overseeing the pre-referral and referral process of special education and our ESL program. This includes overseeing the creation of, and execution of, IEPs and 504 plans for students with special needs, and overseeing our testing, support systems, and academic accommodations for student identified as English Language Learners. Additionally, the Dean of Student Supports will also have a small instructional role within the school co-teaching and providing pull-out services for English Language Arts and/or Math.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a system for monitoring compliance with all federal and state rules and policies regarding special education.
  • Work closely with the district Committee for Special Education (CSE) to ensure that the appropriate supports are put in place for students with disabilities and that annual IEP meetings are scheduled.
  • Work closely with the CSE on the facilitation of evaluations and reevaluations for specialized services.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all matters involving special education due process.
  • Facilitate professional development sessions for general education and special education teachers on accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs, ELLs, and students with 504 Plans.
  • Coordinate annual or semiannual formative and summative evaluations of the special education and ESOL programs.
  • Attend weekly leadership meetings to gather information to disseminate to all special education teachers and to give input on decisions with the special education program in mind.
  • Assist with interviewing special education teachers and related service professionals.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all specialized services provided by external professionals.
  • Provide direct student services as needed.
  • Manage the development and evaluation of all special education teachers, learning specialists, and social workers.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Valid New York State Special Education Certification is required.
  • Minimum of three-years special education teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting is required.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
