Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer

Overview / Responsibilities: Wood is currently seeking a Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer needed to join our Houston, TX team. The successful candidate will provide geotechnical engineering and task management/coordination, and be responsible for delivering geotechnical and geologic projects to Wood’s public and private sector clients. Projects generally include transportation, municipal, industrial, oil and gas, site characterization, dams, levees, pavements and other civil works projects.
We are seeking a career-motivated engineer with at least three years of geotechnical engineering experience in transportation and other municipal projects. The ideal candidate will be eager to develop their skills in all stages of project management: marketing, proposal writing, planning field explorations, engineering analyses, scheduling, budget control, and construction management.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules
- Will provide geotechnical engineering and task management and be responsible for delivering geotechnical and geologic projects to Wood’s Project Managers
- Overseeing field exploration programs and laboratory testing and preparing technical reports
- Interpreting geologic, hydrogeologic, and environmental data
- Performing geotechnical engineering analysis for infrastructure and development projects, such as foundation, retaining wall, slope stability, settlement analysis and pavement design
- Project and budget management including resource management and oversight
- Coordinating project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables
- Collaboration and participation in technical discussions with team members
- Participate in proposal efforts, marketing
Skills / Qualifications:- BS or MS in Civil Engineering - An emphasis in geotechnical engineering is necessary
- Professional Engineer with license or ability to become licensed in Texas
- 3 - 6 years + relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience
- Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil mechanics
- Strong Analytical skills in areas including:
- Soil and rock classification
- Construction observations & field engineering techniques
- Geotechnical field explorations
- Shallow/deep foundation design
- Geotechnical hazards pertaining to site development
- Slope stability analysis
- Intermediate knowledge of geotechnical engineering software (gINT, LPILE, APILE, Slope/W, Settle3D)
- Able to interpret data from a variety of sources, apply technical excellence, and assist in resolving problems that arise on projects
- Good communication, report writing and presentation skills in English
- Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a team
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites, primarily in Texas
- Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
