Meter Technical Supervisor Details

UPPCO seeks a Meter Technical Supervisor to join their team in your choice of Houghton or Ishpeming, Michigan. This position requires thorough knowledge of electricity as you will supervise and coordinate companywide electric field metering personnel, hardware, and related processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Schedule/oversee daily field and shop assignments of Meter Department including meter reading; high bill investigations; non-pay shutoffs; final bills; installing, changing, testing and repairing meters; working with the Engineering Department on large meter settings; resolving routine problems with electricians, contractors and customers; and monitoring meter reading schedules.
  • Monitor daily alarms and events; take appropriate action.
  • Validate and correct configuration discrepancies.
  • Work with various departments to troubleshoot and improve Field Area Network performance.
  • Collaborate with management to develop, implement, document, and assist with technical and operational support and training to metering and other employees.
  • Oversee testing, repairing, and calibration of all electric meters, meter devices and meter equipment per MPSC Technical Rules.
  • Assist with evaluating meters and metering equipment, software, and related IT technology.
  • Assist field employees to resolve equipment problems and improve metering equipment/processes.
  • Coach, develop, mentor, and if needed, provide corrective feedback to direct reports.
  • Work closely with other departments to resolve issues related to metering.
  • Validate meter reading route uploads and downloads in the manual meter reading system.
  • Assign and validate workorder completion in the mobile work force system.
  • Monitor the Miss Dig one call notification system; mange resources to assure completion.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFACTIONS.

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, military equivalent, or similarly named discipline preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in a leadership role required.
  • 3 years’ customer service experience interacting with clients required.
  • 1-year electric metering operations or similar utility instrumentation experience or training required.
  • 5 or more years’ technical experience in the operation of electric distribution utility industry.
  • 5 years’ experience installing, testing, and maintaining metering for residential, commercial and/or industrial customers including single and three phase self-contained and instrument rated installations preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers and office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook calendar/email).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively (50% – 75%) throughout the Upper Peninsula covering an assigned service territory.
