River Street Shelter is a 32-bed emergency shelter for homeless adult men and women located in Santa Cruz, California. Shelter staff work with residents to achieve self-sufficiency goals and connect with community resources for obtaining benefits, physical health services, employment, and housing. Specialized counseling is available for those residents with mental illness to support them in maintaining psychiatric stability and achieving individualized recovery goals. On-site 12-step meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous also support the recovery process for those with substance abuse issues. Position is scheduled to work 32 hours/week (Wednesday- Saturday)

Job Summary:

Clinical Supervision is available for this position

As the Mental Health Clinician, you will establish a close working relationship with current and former foster and probation placement youth ages 15-24, with the goal of supporting and empowering them in making a healthy transition into successful adulthood. This relationship is important to create a safe environment and a partnership that will help the youth work towards achieving their goals. You will be expected to demonstrate an increased skill level and leadership qualities, and role model positive work habits. You will have the knowledge and ability to make independent decisions. Services will be delivered with dignity and respect for each client, and a commitment to their right of choice.

Residential Duties

  • Participate in the efforts to keep the facility clean, well maintained and running smoothly. This could include household duties such as shopping for supplies, cooking, laundry and cleaning. In a supervisor’s absence, take necessary steps to coordinate or provide emergency repairs.

Documentation/Productivity

  • Organize weekly schedule so that approximately 50% of work week is providing billable MediCal services.

-Maintain clinical charts and complete required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. -This may include episode openings and closings, service plans, progress notes, billing forms, client intakes, assessments, CAMS/ANSA and discharge summaries.

  • Fill out client attendance log.

Clinical

  • Meet with clients in the community or at their homes to promote client independence and assist with activities of daily living and maintaining psychiatric stability.
  • Assist clients with shopping, cleaning, moving, laundry, money management, accessing community resources, and issues with roommates or landlords.

Administrative

  • Ensure all administrative procedures are followed and completed within required timelines.
  • Ensure agency administrative and accounting procedures are followed.
  • Follow procedures for rent deposits and tracking and documenting transactions.
  • Process purchase order, log in paid check numbers, etc.
  • Monitor and document petty cash expenditure and reconcile petty cash.

Qualifications:

  • On track for MA in counseling field
  • Or, Registered MFT/MSW intern
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Bilingual, Spanish/English, desired
  • Clinical Supervision Available

Wages & Benefits:

Our total compensation package includes a comprehensive medical and dental insurance plan for full time employees, 403(b) retirement plan, paid holiday, sick time, and 17 days of paid vacation, pro-rated for positions less than 40 hours a week.
