Responsibilities: The day treatment counselor for SRSP Day Treatment will develop, initiate and implement the treatment plans for the clients. Experience: A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in courses such as counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology, or other behavioral science AND 1 year of specialized experience. An exception may be made for the above-mentioned educational requirements, on an individual case by case basis, if a candidate meets the following combination of required minimum education & experience: 1) HS diploma or GED or AA PLUS CSAC or 2) HS diploma or GED or AA PLUS either a) at least twelve (12) hours earned college credit hours in human services/social services subject b) CSAC 6 credit hours of post high school coursework in the areas of human development OR 6 months of supervised experience providing direct services to individuals with behavioral issues OR at least forty (40) hours of continuing education in human/social services subject. The continuing education may consist of seminars, conference, adult education courses, certification coursework, employer training or similar education activities. 3) Preferred Experience: The equivalent of two (2) years full-time work experience providing direct behavioral health services to sever & persistently mentally ill (SPMI) consumers & demonstrated working knowledge of cultural norms, values and issues related to cultural diversity in Hawaii and demonstrated working knowledge of the health/human services system and community resources of Hawaii. 4) Required References: Three verified professional references attesting to the individual's skills, ability & competency to meet the position duties & responsibilities. Required Experience: Counselor will be trained in the provision of treatment to individuals with co-occurring mental and substance abuse disorders. Also counselor is required to have 1 year of specialized experience working with individuals with mental illness. This specialized experience should include progressively responsible professional work experience that involved helping individuals and their families find satisfactory ways of identifying their problems, coping with their conditions and functioning effectively within their environment, identification and evaluation of the client's problems and needs, the development of a service or treatment plan, the initiation and implementation of the treatment plan, monitoring of services and evaluation/assessment of the client's progress. Hours of Work: Hours of work include coverage of day shifts, Mon through Fri.
