Why work with our group

We are building the Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) for VMware's NSX product, with a roadmap to go beyond NSX. VMware is changing the landscape of virtual security and networking in Public/Private clouds, SMB, Enterprise Data Centers and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure by providing the secure networking layer. We have created a state of the art L3-L7 firewall with visibility and enforcement capabilities over everything from IP addresses to specific Applications and its attributes as part of our vision of providing "Better than physical security and connectivity”. All this is configurable seamlessly using an intuitive user interface and configuration management architecture.

We created NGFW and augment it with security analytics and of our own, plus content from our industry leading partners. To seamlessly work with our security industry partners, we have created a Threat Intelligence Cloud service hosted on the AWS public cloud.

The work in our NGFW team can be broken out into Data Plane, Management Plane and Cloud Service with an opportunity to work in multiple areas.

Job Description

We are seeking a cloud service or data plane security development engineer with a passion to work in a complex computing environment to join our Network Security development team. You will work as part of a team that develops security products for virtualized and cloud environments, with a focus on system performance, packet latency and minimal system resource usage.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing, developing and delivering high quality industry leading NGFW security software features and services or Threat Intelligence cloud features, on an aggressive timeline
  • Emphasize on quality: execution with corner cases considered, unit tests, automation, code coverage analysis and debug support
  • Influence and coordinate with other development, testing and deployment teams to get feature done
  • Proactively analyze risks with existing initiatives and come up with mitigation plans and address them timely
  • Participate in architecture, design and code reviews
  • Continuously review the product and code for optimizations and performance improvements.
  • Document architectures, procedures, and processes in use and contribute to improvement of the process.
  • Apply creative development methodologies and design to further improve quality of products.
  • Effectively communicate dependencies and concerns/issues of implementations

Requirements:

  • At least 4-5 years of work experience as an Engineer who has successfully worked in the area of core kernel development or data path packet flow or public cloud development (AWS, GCP or Azure)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Deep interest in internet technology and security concepts with emphasis on the firewall architectures and implementation.
  • Understanding of kernel IO subsystems and virtualization concepts.
  • Understanding of internet technologies: Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, etc., and if possible L7
  • Understanding of distributed systems development
  • Strong software development skills, understanding of software development methodology
  • Experience with open source preferred
  • Understanding of database concepts preferred
  • Proficient in C, C++. Knowledge of Java Python, Go a plus
  • Experience in writing software on a public cloud is a plus.
  • Excellent social and communications skills and be able to interact well with developers internally as well as with partner companies.
  • A Bachelors degree with relevant experience OR master's degree with Computer Science/Electrical engineering would be ideal.
