General Description:

Under general direction, performs duties related to the front office operation of medical clinic.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the front office operation while maintaining excellent patient relations
  • Schedules, cancels and reschedules patient appointments
  • Communicates with patients and providers including reminding patients of appointments
  • Checks in patients and properly documents registration, upon arrival
  • Assists patients with their financial liability
  • Analyzes patient financial status and related documentation to determine if financial assistance may be available through third party organizations
  • Answers phones, takes messages and ensures proper delivery of messages
  • Obtains pre-certification and verification from any third party payers or employer
  • Receives and reviews charge documents from the clinic and ensures information is correct
  • Informs supervisor of charge entry issues
  • Collects co-pay from patient while ensuring proper handling of cash
  • Obtains authorization on credit card payments
  • Enters charges and payments on the computer
  • Balances the payments for the day on the computer
  • Assists physician practice coders and other staff in billing, coding and reimbursement issues
  • Provides information and training to new employees in the department
  • Prepares reports as needed
  • Assists with the supervision of staff

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: None.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in hospital or medical admitting, financial counseling, physician coding, reimbursement or related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to type twenty (20) words per minute.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of medical office processes and medical terminology. Knowledge of medical insurance. Knowledge of basic office equipment. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities. Good organization skills. Excellent communication skills. Must be detailed oriented and able to meet established deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information. Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.
