United States Army, Active Duty & Army Reserves - Chicago, IL

Employment Type : Full-Time

IMPORTANT: This is a position in the military and requires an enlistment in the US Army. It is available both on Active Duty (full-time) as well as Army Reserve (part-time, one weekend a month plus two weeks in the summer). Active Duty is almost exclusively out of state but relocation costs are fully paid by the Army. Reserve positions are available in Chicago area (city and suburbs).

  • Must be between the ages of 17 - 34.
  • Must have a GED, be a High School Graduate, OR have a minimum of 15 college semester hours.
  • Must not have any tattoos on the neck, face, or hands.

Overview

The medical logistics specialist is primarily responsible for receiving, storing, recording and issuing Army medical supplies.

Job Duties

  • Perform inventory and financial management procedures, including ordering, receiving and storing supplies
  • Load, unload and move stock using equipment such as forklifts and hand trucks
  • Perform quality control, property management and repair parts management

Training

Job training for a medical logistics specialist requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and six weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in handling and storing stock.

Some of the skills you’ll learn are:

  • Stock control and accounting procedures
  • Procedures for shipping, receiving, storing and issuing stock
  • Understanding the handling of medical and food supplies

Helpful Skills

  • Interest in mathematics, bookkeeping, accounting, business administration and typing
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Enjoy physical work
  • Interest in operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment

Compensation

Total compensation includes housing, medical, food, special pay, and vacation time.
