Essential Duties

  • Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests and examination in all sections of the laboratory.
  • Collects blood specimens from patients.
  • Evaluates specimens received for testing to determine suitability for testing.
  • Notifies physicians or nurse practitioners of rejected specimens.
  • Processes specimens into the laboratory tests and examination in all sections of the laboratory information system for testing.
  • Enters and verifies results.
  • Provides clerical support for laboratory staff including processing incoming and outgoing laboratory reports, making copies, maintaining and organizing filing systems, and end of the month statistical reports.
  • Follows established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintains records of patient results.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance on all instruments.
  • Performs quality control and notifies Supervisor of any problems and corrective actions taken.
  • Participates in quality improvement process/projects.
  • Assists the lead medical technologist in administration duties.
  • Responsible for taking a leadership role in cultivating, creating and ensuring student participation in ASU Spirit, Pride and Tradition while instilling institutional affiliation and college pride.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory and experimental protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tissue culture procedures and techniques.
  • Experience in record maintenance.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in maintaining quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Experience in preparing and processing laboratory samples using established protocols.
  • Experience in performing a range of clinical lab tests and chemical analyses and biological samples.
  • Experience in drawing intravenous and peripheral blood.
  • Experience in monitoring and/or maintaining quality control standards.
  • Evidence of a MLT Certification
  • Experience with an Electronic Medical Record
  • Experience working collaboratively in a diverse environment
  • Evidence of attendance, reliability, and time management skills

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in a potentially hazardous atmosphere with exposure to various health hazards such as blood borne pathogens; required to stand for extended lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
