We are seeking a qualified and dedicated medical biller to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation, and sound judgment. As our medical biller, your daily duties will include billing patient encounters, filing corrected claims, appealing denied claims, answering the telephone, calling patients and insurances, and recording patient and insurance payments. Minimum of two years of medical billing experience is required. Basic computer skills are also needed for this position. Good communication and Professional mannerism is required. Knowledge of medical terminology also required. Bilingual is a plus.

To succeed in this role, you must possess in-depth knowledge of medical billing practices and medical insurance policies. The ideal candidate must also be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as communicating with clients and various insurance agents.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES

  • Prepare and submit patient encounters billing data and medical claims to insurance companies.
  • Ensure the patient’s medical insurance and demographic information is accurate and up to date.
  • Reconcile missing fee tickets.
  • Prepare bills and invoices, and document amounts due to medical procedures and services.
  • Collect and review referrals and pre-authorizations.
  • Monitor and record patient payments.
  • Post insurance payments.
  • Follow-up on unpaid claims and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Examine patient bills for accuracy before submission and request any missing information.
  • File corrected claims to insurance company as needed.
  • Investigate and appeal denied claims.
  • Help patients develop patient payment plans.
  • Maintain billing software by updating rate change, cash spreadsheets, and current collection reports.
  • Works under the supervision of Director of Billing and Credentialing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of medical insurance, copays, deductibles, coinsurances, and medical billing.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and appropriately with patients, patient families, co-workers, and administrators.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, health care administration, accounting or relevant field preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a medical biller or similar role required.
  • Solid understanding of billing processes and electronic medical records.
  • Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and productive interpersonal relationships with patients, patient families, co-workers, and administrators.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands: Occasional walking and minimal lifting in a medical office setting.

Visual Demands: Computer use, operation of the phone system, preparation of reports, reading handwriting, seeing short distances, and completing data entry.

Environmental Conditions: Work is conducted in a typical indoor work environment with good lighting, noise, and temperature control.

Minimum Education and Expertise: Minimum 2-3 years experience preferred. Bilingual Spanish and English preferred.
