Description: Responsible for performing clerical and reception duties, as well as the primary functions of a Medical Assistant. Works to facilitate processes with other departments, personnel, and insurance companies to coordinate patient care. Answers phones, schedules patient appointments, handles pre-certifications and referrals. Maintains a pleasant, efficient, and well-organized working environment. Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent
1. Coordinates patient flow by scheduling appointments, checking in patients upon arrival, confirming demographic information and insurance, confirming or obtaining referrals as appropriate, and collecting copays. (30%)
2. Performs office duties to include, but not limited to answering phones and directing phone calls or taking and relaying messages appropriately. (30%)
3. Prepares patient charts with insurance specific forms, requisitions, and superbills. Processes and files test results in a timely manner. (15%)
4. Responsible for scheduling patients for tests and procedures, obtaining necessary insurance authorization, and providing patients with instructions. (15%)
5. Responsible for rooming patients, including recording weight and vital signs. (5%)
6. Performs other work duties as assigned. (5%)
Total 100%Education: High school diploma required. RMA, CMA, NCMA, CCMA, ABR-OE, or comparable credential preferred.Experience: Experience in a medical office or hospital department, or graduate of MA program and/or medical assisting experience. Basic computer skills required. Good verbal and documentation skills required. The assessment, care and treatment provided by the medical assistant will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The medical assistant is competent to care for patient age groups consistent with the specialties of the physician(s) in the practice.Reporting Relationships (Text Only): Job Relationships: Brief descriptions of the types of interactions that occur for this job. Takes direction from: Office Manager/Practice Coordinator, Physician(s), and Physician Extender(s) Provides direction to: N/A Supervised by: Office Manager/Practice Coordinator Working Conditions: Employee is required to sit and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) load frequently, a medium (21-50 lbs.) and/or heavy (50 lbs. +) load occasionally. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. Employee may be required to do simple grasping and pushing/pulling.
