- Reports to and works under the direct supervision of the Office Manager. The Medical Assistant/Clinical Office Coordinator is responsible for ensuring patient preparation and supporting the physician(s) with clinical and office duties.
Job Functions
- Greet patients upon arrival, maintains orderliness of reception area and front desk ensuring patient confidentiality.
- Captures and enters high quality patient demographic and financial information.
- Identifies insurance coverage and payer requirements for hospital services, processes insurance verification, prior authorizations and other basic benefit information for patients
- Assist with billing functions and working with the billing company.
- Processes patients quickly & accurately through computer based scheduling system for future appointments and/or testing as appropriate for patient care.
- Prepares patients for physician (including vital signs prior to exam)
- Administer and record pediatric and adult immunizations
- Phlebotomy
- Assists physician during examination and procedures
- Follow up to patients with results following physician’s evaluation of tests
- Answers incoming patient calls regarding medical questions and respond accordingly
- Orders necessary office, medical supplies and ensures security of all medications.
- Maintains and supports patient’s rights to care, privacy and respect.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time
Minimum Qualifications
- Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred completion of a Medical Assistant course strongly preferred.
- Experience
- Two to Four years of relevant work experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical/physician’s office preferred.
- One to three years Administrative Assistant/Medical Office preferred
- Pediatric experience preferred
- Licensure and/or Certification
- State Certification preferred but not required.
- Skills
- Computer skills with the GE Centricity electronic medical record (EMR), Meditech preferred, and the ability to maintain confidential information, strong interpersonal communication skills on the phone and in person, customer service skills.
