BLS at time of hire through American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider
Physical RequirementsThe ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
ShiftMonday – Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm, may require some holidays. Other days/times determined by department needs and urgent situations.
Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for direct patient care and provides clinical support to providers.
Duties include but not limited to the following: obtain patient medical history information, expedite patient flow, room patients, stock clinic with supplies, navigate electronic health record system, schedule and follow-up with appointments and assist with medication fill requests, prior authorizations and schedule tests, procedures and consults.
The MA will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and follow UK HealthCare values for service excellence.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.
Skills / Knowledge / AbilitiesExperience with insurance, scheduling and other patient related activities. Experience with UK’s registration/scheduling system (RSS).
